The six attorneys who founded McAndrews, Held & Malloy in 1988 shared a common vision to become the best legal resource in America on intellectual property and technology matters.

Our founders began building the firm's core capabilities around successful trial work. Their initial assignments involved the complex technology behind a diverse mix of products: intermittent windshield wipers, building siding, diapers, landfills, fireplaces, fax machines, defibrillators, baking pans and golf balls.

Many of the clients who turned to McAndrews, Held & Malloy early on remain clients today. They have helped turn the firm into one of the most successful intellectual property boutiques of its kind—a firm offering full-service intellectual property and technology services. The firm's steady expansion has been fueled in large part by an annual influx of top law school talent. Our summer associate program attracts some of the brightest dual-degree attorneys in the nation, all of whom bring advanced technical training along with their legal credentials.

Today, our focus is on continually developing our attorneys to be the best in the field. In part, this means ensuring they are aware of the latest developments that might impact our clients. For example, we review daily summaries of Federal Circuit decisions as they are issued, as well as advance sheets for all published patent, trademark, copyright and antitrust decisions. We maintain an active role among legal and other professional and industry trade associations. Weekly Continuing Legal Education programs also ensure that our attorneys remain a source of superior counsel to our clients.

What began as a few rooms in our headquarters at 500 West Madison Street in Chicago is today two full floors of attorneys. Each shares a constant commitment to set new standards in our areas of specialty.
